Art of the Book - Rochester Public Library

Every year the Rochester Public Library has an Art of the Book Exhibition.  I keep saying to myself that I need to enter that. So earlier this year I started working on it.

I had picked up some plastic slide holders awhile back, thinking someday I would find a use for them.

Found a box of old photographs - tiny sized silver gelatin prints from my grandmother, taken in the 1940's or about that time.

I cut them to fit into the slide holders and sorted them into a story with some advice from my partner. then punched tiny holes in the slide holders and sewed each panel together with a bright colored thread representative of the bright colors of the swimsuits, towels and umbrellas one sees at the beach.

The back side needed something more so I attached some blue cyanotype scraps to represent water then wrote  the story on the back.

I was pleased to learn my book was accepted into the exhibit and will be on display with all of the other artists from August through November 2024.

The Rochester Public Library will update the website with the new information at this site
