I have been wanting to do a BIG Woodblock and following bigink.org for awhile.
They provide a large press that is transported to different Studios and when you sign up and pay you are provided with the Master Class and instructions on what you need to do.
I selected a 24" x 36" piece of Cherry wood - ordered per instructions and spent a considerable amount of time selecting a photograph that I converted to carve into the block.
The image was printed on multiple pieces of paper - per instructions and painted a blue - per instructions as well for visibility and for inking purposes. I transferred most of the image but ended up having to get carbon paper which worked better and decided to begin carving.
Cherry wood is hard to carve so I started using a dremel and had to get a few good bits for this.
My printing date is in September but I wanted to get a start as I will be unable to carve in January.
I plan to do the initial carving with the dremel and then go back and fine tune with my carving tools.
I will then drive to the location in the fall with the block in the car and the other items I was told I would need. One day of Printing, paper and ink provided, and I will go home with 3 prints.
Fingers crossed this works out well.
